He’s done more…

“I have spent the past decade fighting in the State Senate for a more affordable, safe, and fair New York. During my time in the Senate, I have passed over 370 bills focusing on a range of issues, including:

  • Protecting tenants against eviction by sponsoring legislation to prevent unjust evictions during the COVID pandemic, and expanding the definition of “family member” for the purposes of tenant succession in rent protected housing;

  • Cracking down on dangerous e-bikes by passing legislation mandating mopeds be registered and licensed at the point of sale;

  • Securing funding for mental health, including $15 million to improve efforts preventing youth suicide and championing a federal Medicaid waiver to support the creation of more mental health beds in NY;

  • Banning ICE from targeting undocumented New Yorkers in and around New York State courthouses;

  • Passing the Child Victims Act and sponsoring the Adult Survivors Act to help survivors of sexual abuse get the justice they deserve;

  • Eliminating illegal guns in conjunction with D.A. Alvin Bragg and Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal, sponsoring legislation to make 3D-printed guns and gun parts illegal;

  • Fighting bias crimes including antisemitism and anti-LGBTQ hate through legislation, adding 23 new offenses to state hate crime laws.

He’ll do more.

“I am proud to be running to be your next Manhattan Borough President. When it comes down to it, I am running as the quality-of-life candidate. We are facing public safety, affordability, and quality-of-life challenges like we haven’t seen in decades. As a parent raising my school age daughters in Manhattan, I see those problems every day and am deeply invested in the future of our borough. As your next Borough President, I pledge to work every day to deploy the resources of the office to hold government and private actors accountable.”

As Borough President, I will…

  • Utilize community boards as the town halls of our neighborhoods, where they serve as a crucial entity to the policy development and advocacy of the Borough President’s office. As part of that process, we need to improve their credibility by establishing an independent screening panel to review applications, prohibit registered lobbyists from serving on boards, and continue to provide and expand their support.

  • Continue to lead the fight to protect tenants and spur the creation of more affordable homes with a comprehensive plan including:

    • Requiring affordable housing units in every new development project;

    • Making it easier to convert commercial buildings to residential homes;

    • Ensuring community input on housing projects;

    • Protecting tenants and preserving existing affordable apartments;

    • Fighting Trump attempts to cut funding for housing assistance and public housing

  • Seek to employ a real estate analyst to help inform ULURP decision-making and answer the age-old question: How much profit is a developer reaping from a deal?

  • Create a Public School Parent Resource and Advocacy Center that helps parents in low-income Manhattan communities navigate the byzantine public school enrollment process while advancing strategies to integrate our public schools, as well as advocate for the special needs of the student population, including dyslexia.

  • Use the Borough President’s office to create a Manhattan Tenant Unions to help tenants collectively negotiate with landlords, avoid eviction and costly and unnecessary litigation, and arrange long-term rent reduction/payment plans.  There are countless Manhattan residents in buildings that should be organized to know their rights, especially with the advent of Good Cause Eviction protections.

“As Manhattan Borough President, I will constantly look for ways to creatively use the powers of the office to meet the needs of the 1.7 million residents who live in the best borough in the best city in the world. I will advocate to improve infrastructure and make our streets, sidewalks, and subways safer.

I’ve spent the last decade fighting in the State Senate for a Manhattan that is liveable, affordable and safe. I pledge that as Borough President, I’ll bring the same energy and creativity to tackle the toughest challenges for families, seniors, small businesses and the most vulnerable members of our community.”
